First Senior Financial Group
Joann Small became CEO of First Senior Financial Group on January 1, 2012, after founder Phil Cannella stepped down to broaden his reach through Retirement Media, Inc. Mrs. Small was the natural choice to succeed Cannella at the helm of the company after years as his longtime colleague and Crash Proof Retirement Show® co-host. With Mrs. Small’s three decades of experience working closely with those in or near retirement, she was in a perfect position to help concerned investors make difficult decisions about an uncertain future. As CEO, she has continued the firm's tradition of consumer advocacy, working exclusively on protecting the retirement nest eggs of thousands of Americans.
“I take pride in being a financial lifesaver to anyone in crisis or transition,” says Ms. Small. To this end, Joann routinely attends comprehensive training courses regarding the ever-changing laws governing IRAs and other retirement accounts. “I have made a lifetime commitment to this training,” she says, “I owe nothing less to my clients.”
Beyond her expertise in retirement finance, Joann Small’s experiences as a woman in the financial industry have helped her relate to many female retirees. Statistics show that half of American women over age 65 are widowed or divorced, meaning many women come through the doors at First Senior Financial Group handling their finances alone for the first time. Joann is uniquely qualified to help these retirees understand finances in a comfortable and nurturing environment, away from the fast-paced and typically male-dominated mainstream financial firms.
Joann Small appears every weekend on the Crash Proof Retirement Show®, which airs Saturdays at 11am and select Sundays at 1pm on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, the Philadelphia area’s top talk radio station.
Mrs. Small and her firm, First Senior Financial Group partnered with her radio show co-host Phil Cannella and WOGL 98.1 to make donations to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia during WOGL’s “Loves our Children” radiothon. To date, First Senior Financial Group has made three separate donations totaling $165,000, making them the largest single donors in the history of the radiothon.
Ms. Small is also one of the founders of the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation, which combats breast cancer in the Delaware Valley region by providing free mammograms and cancer screenings, as well as by offering support to friends and family of breast cancer sufferers and working to increase awareness of the disease and its prevention. She is also a contributor to City of Hope, an organization leading the fight against cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and other life-threatening diseases.
